COLORS

COLORS

The anonymous Mass of Tournai is one of the oldest polyphonic masses. Shortly after the Second World War, the archivist of the Cathedral of Tournai noticed that an important manuscript had disappeared. It contained Gregorian and polyphonic music, created at the end of the fifteenth century. It was not until 2006 that it re-emerged. Since the rediscovery of the manuscript, studies have shown its significance, both historically and musically. Thanks to Psallentes under the direction of Hendrik Vanden Abeele, you can discover the pure beauty of this jewel.

Festival Kortrijk combines the heavenly chants with the creation of Colors by Wim Henderickx. During Colors, a complex polyphonic fabric of women’s voices and electronics unfolds. Psallentes sings the Mass of Tournai in the center of the church and in between the parts, 44 singers let Colors resonate around the audience. A unique experience.
